Tonight I saw a moon that was a waxing crescent. There are eight phases in all and this one looks slim and is on the right side of the moon. Although the moon isn't actually changing shape, it appears that it is because there is a shadow covering part of it in most of the phases. Rarely you can make out the part of the moon that is covered by the shadow. Tonight I could, except the quality of the picture is poor so you probably won't. It also looks like a third quarter phase but it is not. -E.O.
